Absolutely delish. Started with the plantain chips and guac and the goat cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates. YES PLEASE! I like that they have the smaller portions (duh tapas restaurant) but I really didn't want the huge entree after such great starters. I got the half portion of the melt in your mouth steak and whipped potatoes with the blue cheese sauce on top. (Cue heart attack!) I left feeling very happy. Only downside is that they don't have a wheelbarrow to roll you out of there.

Wow. Who would have guessed this little gem existed in New Albany. No.. Not wow. More like Holy cow! After stopping at a nearby winery, my handy dandy little Yelp app rated this the highest restaurant in the area. Totally agree. Located in an old building that was once a hotel, Habana Blues is a tapas style Cuban restaurant with hearty sandwiches that you'll be doing good to finish. The el cubano looked delicious, as did everything else that my party of 6 tasted. If only we had room for the coconut flan...

Very bad service. Called in to make reservation for 10 on Valentine's Day. Person on the phone failed to say it was a special menu with only $37 dinners\ no alcohol was being served that night. When we explained to the manager, she made no effort to fix the oversight on their part. Left after 10 people parked and sat down for my sister's 16th birthday.

It gets three stars because of the five of us that went, all agreed that it was alright but we wouldn't go back again. It's funny that most everyone raves about their smoked honey dipping sauce because we all tried and none of us liked it much. Maybe they were having an off night. But anyhow we had a few of the tapas including tuna, steak with chimichurri, and a bread pudding dessert that was my favorite food of the night. My sister had the Elena Ruth sandwich and loved it. But the ambiance wasn't great either, maybe it's because they sat us in the back because on my way to the bathroom I walked through the front room and it is much better to look at.

My first visit to this local Cuban style restaurant left me impressed. The menu is large and we tried the small plate portion of the menu in order to try a few different plates and that worked out very well. We started with the sofrito scallops and this clearly was the star of the evening. I often have scallops when we go out and I would go so far to say that these will hold up against any restaurant in the Louisville area. These shouldn't be missed and will be a part of my future visits. My wife also loved these. Habana Blues Tacos were two soft corn meal tacos w/grilled grouper, tomatoes, onions, shredded lettuce, cilantro, avocado spread, sour cream and jalapenos. This was another big winner and like all of the food this evening everything was very lite so I didn't leave hungry and at the same time wasn't stuffed to the gills. Also had the blue mussels sautéed on a creole tomato with red wine sauce, very good and this was a bit of a different take on mussels. Something different from the other eateries that I've been to. It was a good choice. My only knock on the visit was that the grilled mahi-mahi came out cool and not hot. The service was good, the live music was a delight and my wife said the two gentlemen playing Spanish guitar made her feel like she was on a bit of a vacation. The mistake on my part was waiting so long to eat here, this will be one that I will visit often.

I had arrived here on Valentine's day for a dinner with my friends, hoping to get a variety of entrees to choose from. Before showing up, I called three times to make a reservation, with their number being disconnected - I checked the number that was listed here, then checked their website, and it was correct. We decided to try and see if any tables were open, which we were able to find was in our favor. Once I had sat down, my company and I were informed we were unable to order any alcohol, and our menu was limited to a set of scripted items. I did my best to not complain, although being shoehorned into a $37 meal was not my idea of a good time on a limited budget- there easily was other places to go where I didn't have get only a full meal. After looking at our menu for a good ten minutes, we were informed that their signature dish, the Beef Wellington, was out of stock... I had my heart set on this dish, and I already had my drink in front of me. Regardless, I changed my order and selected from their limited menu. Our food arrived, with very meager portions, and at slow rates. I would understand if it there were dishes that took a long time to cook, such as fried dishes, but my appetizer was watermelon with prosciutto, and my salad was just two slices of tomato, a slice of cheese, and dressing. The main course left much to be desired for its size as well, the salmon was about the size of a tennis ball. I wasn't too pleased with dessert either, which I hadn't wanted to begin with, but was forced to get if I wanted service. The apple cake was beyond overcooked, I couldn't even cut into it with a spoon, and the ice cream was of very poor quality. I neglected to mention also that their flan, the only other choice for dessert, was out of stock only after we had finished our entree. Eventually our check came, and I was very displeased to see that they tacked on a twenty percent gratuity. Considering the quality of food and service, I would have let my tip do the talking, but I was once again shoved in a direction with zero say. I will not return to this restaurant again.

When I read all of the previous reviews, I can only assume that I hit on an off night - either for the chef or my tastebuds. First off, our service was excellent - no complaints there. The atmosphere was nice, nothing over the top, but quaint and cute. This was my first time at a Tapas bar, so while I wasn't exactly sure of what to expect, I ordered dishes that were fairly familiar to me. Instead of an entree, I ordered the Scallops Sofrito as tapas (if that is how you refer to it?) and a Caprese Salad. Both came beautifully plated, but neither had much flavor at all. I love scallops, but these were pretty bland, which especially surprised me when I got home and looked up the ingredients in a Sofrito sauce. Garlic and pepper? I really did not taste any. As for the Caprese Salad, the tomatoes were not very ripe, which could be understandable in January, but the balsamic reduction could have made up for that, but it didn't. I have never met a balsamic reduction that I did not like, but this one barely registered as having any balsamic vinegar in it. I was so disappointed in my whole meal. Obviously, this place must be better than this or it would not have so many glowing reviews. Next time I will be certain to ask more questions as to what is the most popular dish on the menu, but part of me wants to try the same items, hoping it was only a fluke.

What an amazing place. Steak was juicy and incredibly flavorful. The red beans soup was the closest I've had to homemade at my grandma's house. The menu has authentic traditional dishes and a lot of creative fusion inspired dishes like the stuffed dates. As a Cuban American, I am usually disappointed with Cuban food at restaurants. Nothing beats home cooked. Until I came to this place. I'm going back tomorrow. Que Rico!

Go with the mushrooms! It never fails when the flavor and taste of the ordered dish surpasses your expectations! Habana Blues is that place! The flavors are incredible, taste of food makes you regret that you don't live closer! And while enjoying the delicious food, they have live music! How awesome is that? The Habana Blues is a must for anyone visiting or residing in New Albany or Louisville!!

This place is an awesome place to sit down for a spell. It's great to go on a weekend and hear the guitar player play. I could listen to him all day long. And it's not just because this acoustics in this place is amazing! :-p We have ordered so much each time we go, and it's always reasonably priced. My fave, even though they are bacon wrapped, and I think they could be easily translated into something more veggie friendly. But they are bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese. We always get the empanadas. These are a staple and a must have. But the best, and I must say, the best, and surprisingly so, since it seems to be more hispanic based food, is the hummus. It is truly delicious. The sweet potato fries are always a great starter! This place is great for business meetings to sit and hash out over deals, but it is way better for romantic dinners, or just to bring a big group of friends and have a night of catching up. It is so nice that it makes me hungry writing this. I have pictures, but I have been neglecting my yelping (wagging finger at myself) so I will get these posted as soon as possible. However, even without the pictures - you can't go wrong with this place. PS. It is a really cool building too, we found out our third or fourth time there that its a renovated historic hotel and the architecture is amazing as well!

Love this place. Service is always exceptional and staff is great about explaining the options. I love the bacon-wrapped goat cheese-stuffed dates, the guac with plantain chips is great, beef empenadas are great and there was some sort of bean soup we tried that was kick butt too. Def try this place out. Oh, and either get the sangria or a margarita!

A friend and I stopped at Havana Blues in New Albany today for lunch. We both had lunch specials at $7.99 plus drink and dessert. Her grouper slider was delicious, we both enjoyed our half caprese salad and her yuca frites. My half Cuban sandwich was delicious. I would go there again just for that. The vegetable yellow rice was good, but my friend enjoyed it more than I did. (I am not a fan of chorizo and I think there were pieces of that in it.) Sh got coconut flan for dessert - wonderful! My molten lava cake came with an unexpected side of ice cream with cute green sprinkles. The molten lava was not very molten. On the dry side, but taste was passable. The service was excellent; our waitress answered all of our questions and anticipated many we didn't have. I would go back for more of that Cuban sandwich but would sub the yuca for the rice and the flan for the cake. Four stars from me because everything that was right was very right.

Agree with Jon. Who would have thought a great little Cuban restaurant would be in New Albany, IN. I really enjoyed my Fritas de Marisco sandwich and crispy sweet potato fries. Ulysses was super too.

Stopped for lunch with a friend and we both had the $7.99 lunch special (includes two sides). We had the 1/2 Cuban sandwich which was very tasty, though a bit small as compared to others I've had. Sides of skillet potatoes (tender and spicy) and vegetable yellow rice (subtle flavoring). Service was very good, attentive and quick. We were able to sit in the patio which was very nice. Low points for the men's bathroom as it looked dirty, had no hand soap. A sign there says they will be moving to Pearl Street this fall.

We stopped in New Albany to find a quaint diner for brunch, but we ran across this place and decided to give it a shot. I couldn't be happier about our decision. The building was really cool (looked like an old hotel). We had a sampler-type tapas plate with chorizo, Serrano ham, manchego, blue cheese, jams and olives/almonds. It was perfection. We split one of their grilled sandwiches and were just as thrilled with that choice. The sandwich was served with sweet potato fries and smoked honey. We couldn't get over the taste of the honey - it was fantastic. The smoke taste was apparent, but not overwhelming. Sweet, smoky love! We finished with the coconut flan, and it was the BEST flan I've ever had. (And I'm a flan lover!) I will definitely make the trip back. If you're close or live locally, you should be taking advantage of Havana Blues. It is spectacular!

Diverse menu with many dishes reminiscent of our time in tapas bars in Spain. Would have preferred smaller tapas portions, so we could have enjoyed more choices tonight, but we really enjoyed our dinner! A great stop in the Louisville area.

New Albany is impressing me with its dining options. One of those is this gem. This place has just a touch of shabbiness. I love it because when I picture a restaurant in Old Havana, this is it. The staff is warm and welcoming. I love the pressed sandwiches. The sweet potato fries come with a smoked honey dipping sauce that is out of this world. I have not had a mojito here yet, to my dismay. I am always so full of beer from New Albanian Brewing Company that I stick with water. Next time, though. Next time.

"Little gem" is a great way to describe Habana Blues. We were heading south on a road trip - with kids - and detoured to New Albany for lunch at the New Albanian Brewery. Should have done my research, because they were closed on Monday. Habana Blues was one of the few restaurants we could find that day and what a pleasant surprise! The beef empanadas and pork tacos were especially delicious. As an added bonus, the kids menu items seemed home-made - and not dumped out of a bag. Our server was professional and friendly. The restaurant itself is in a ramshackle old building but there were signs announcing a future move to a new location.

Delish! My friends and I attended this tapas restaurant looking for relief from the heat and a bite of food. In true fashion we each ordered as many different sauces and dishes that we could try. From vegetarian, to meat lovers, to sampler platter we enjoyed every bite. This is truly a delight to find so close to Downtown Louisville. In addition to the great food there are plenty of drink specials and great times to be had. The atmosphere is very laid back, perfect for a causal date.

Love food taste, Love the atmosphere, but the portions just left me unsatisfied, now before you jump on me for nor understanding the concept. No I get it. Still just to little food for the price to warrant a 4th star. Now some smaller and filled more easily would give it a 4 or 5.

I enjoyed this very much. A great lunch option and really not bad to hop over the river from downtown Louisville. The atmosphere of the court yard was probably my favorite part and the food was second. I will definitely be back.

(Side note: This is the original Habana Blues in New Albany, In. For a more comprehensive review, see my review of the new location on the east end of Louisville.) Here's the deal: I cannot stand tapas. I want a full meal on big plates, thank you. But I adore Habana Blues. Why? Because their plates are substantial, the food is amazing, the drinks are potent, and the price is definitely right. My FMIL and I went for a fall lunch, out on the relaxing patio in the sun by the fountain. Two big and well-made margaritas, plantain chips and guac, and a couple of meaty plates to share made for an excellent tapas experience, even for a tapas hater. The chimichurri steak was truly off the chain, and the sweet potato fries with smoked honey are a taste sensation I need to get back in my life, ASAP. Tapas doubters, this is your new favorite tapas spot, trust me on that.

I have never had a sandwich as perfect as the "Elena Ruth" that I ordered today at Habana Blues in New Albana. I personally would have never expected strawberry jam, cream cheese, swiss cheese, and turkey to taste good together but it was beyond amazing when served warm on crispy cuban bread and I savored every bite of it. The sandwich is normally served with sweet potato fries but I opted for their regular fries instead and they were refreshingly delicious compared to many other fries that I have tried recently. The restaurant's atmosphere is pleasant, taking the diner to another time and place. The only star I'm deducting is for the awkward feeling that I had when I entered the restaurant and was not met by a host but rather just by a sign that said, "wait to be seated." I waited and waited and waited before a host finally came. I saw this happen to several guests. One even tried knocking on the host podium loudly to attract attention to her party. Another group wandered into the dining room searching for someone to seat them. All of this was very distracting to the guests already eating in the dining room. If the restaurant resolves this seating snaffoo then they will surely be a five start establishment.

I've been here twice and I'm a huge fan. Definitely something different and moderately priced. They do a great job with their spices and the staff has always been prompt and more than one server will ask you if there is anything you need.

We were outside Habana reading the menu when a gentleman walking his dog said, "You cannot go wrong with this place!" We needed no more encouragement and are thrilled we did. The server was excellent, the food superb. There were four of us and we all ordered not only great tapas but all had different desserts. We snagged two take out menus so that we could enjoy the food at a later date.

It's good every time. I've been back several times with my gf and we always enjoy it. I keep trying new things here and haven't had a bad one yet. We had problems with the service one time when they were really busy, but they made up for it immediately. Other places should take notes on customer service here.

We live in NW Indiana, near Chicago. When my wife needed to go to New Albany for a conference, instead of having her drive, I told the that I would take her. We are getting into the habit of finding places with small plates. The better to sample many things during a visit. Well, we happened across Habana Blues, and decided to try it. Again, small plates was the search. What a find! The menu was fabulous and we wound up trying a whole slew of different items. All of which were Delicious. Our waitress was very personable, and helped decide some of our plates. Again, all of which were great. The drinks were also great. We wound up spending the evening here, what better way, food, drink and good company with a very gracious host. We don't get down here very often, but if we do, this will be a stop.

This local stop was excellent! I would highly recommend. I had fish tacos and our group shared some homemade (Red wine) Sangria which was some of the best I have ever had. The menu was a little hard to read, but the staff was very friendly and helpful. We went with all of their recommendations. I will be going back!!

Great Cuban food with huge variety on the menu. Great deal on lunch for $7.99 you get a grilled sandwich and 2 sides! I had grilled veggie sandwich (Great caramelized onions on it too) with salad and bean soup. My husband loved his Grouper sandwich, and plantains (maduras or caribbean bananas). Good value, good service, great food. Colorful interior in neat old historic building downtown.

Was in there on December 2. I have to say I was very disappointed in the service. The staff was in a very big hurry to close up and go to Wicks Pizza. I think I'll go to Wicks myself next time and recommend staying clear of this place. Worst part of this is the owner was on the premises.

This place is really good. My husband did some research and found this little gem in charming downtown New Albany. I love tapas restaurants so I was excited to try it out. The interior decor is pretty bland and nondescript, but it doesn't detract from the food, so no big deal. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, giving us recommendations when we asked, and making sure we loved everything. He seemed really excited to be working there. I ordered a sangria to start, the hubs got a margarita. The sangria was full of yummy fruit and was a perfect compliment to the meal. I would definitely get it again. The hubs' marg was good too - tart and not too sweet, which is exactly how I like it. We ordered 6 dishes (plus dessert) to split between us: Ceviche of the day: That day it was a shrimp and grouper ceviche. It was very good. My only complaint is that it was plated on a hot plate over some sort of hot corn pancake. So if you didn't eat it right away, it made the cold ceviche room temp, which is kind of off-putting to me. The hubs didn't mind, but I just stayed away from the heat, and really enjoyed the cold bites I had. Boniato Frito: sweet potato fries with smoked honey dipping sauce. They were a nice side item, no complaints there. Queso Fundido: gooey, melty, stringy cheese on four baguette slices. Really yummy. Our server was really excited that we ordered this. Ropa Veija de Pollo: this came highly recommended by our server, and did not disappoint. It reminded me of a creole chicken dish, and I could probably eat my weight in the sweet plantains. Pescado a la Plancha: We generally don't love mahi mahi, but our server recommended this dish and we were glad we got it. The mahi was well cooked (not overcooked and dry like it seems to always be) and a really well-composed dish. Tamal de Mariscos: essentially a seafood tamale. This dish came out last and by that time we were pretty full. It was good, but not spectacular. For dessert, we got the signature dessert, Flan de Coco (coconut flan) and I would definitely recommend ordering it if you have any room in your stomach. As usual for me, the dessert stole the show. All of the tapas are pretty inexpensive too (all under $8, most in the $4-6 range). We could have done without one of the dishes we ordered and still been pretty full. We are excited to come back and want to try everything on the huge, delicious-sounding menu!

Just had lunch from Habana Blues. Ordered it to go as I had to work during lunch. I had some type of sandwich with two fried eggs and chorizo sausage, fig jam with sweet potato fries and cup of red bean soup. The sweet potato fries and soup were both very good. The sandwich was really great. I was glad I had ordered it to go because I had egg yolk going everywhere, but I was loving it. Also had spring mix and tomatoes on the sandwich. All of this was $7.99. Great food at a good price.

The newly opened Habana Blues, where the New Albany Bistro used to be located, is the latest star in downtown New Albany. After having a beer at the NABC Bank Street Brewery the wife and I decided to walk over and try "the new cuban place." Habana Blues is directly on the corner of Bank and Market street. The historic building is as inviting as the hostess who greeted us. We ordered drinks and our waitress gave us a brief warning that she was 18 and wasn't totally familiar with what the bar had to offer. No problem, this place is roughly a week old and I have no problem being patient for a teen trying make sure she got us the proper drink. Mojitos. They're great. They arrived with a slice of lime and a stick of sugarcane in them. The mint was clearly fresh and permeated the drink. It was great but a bit on the small side (lots of ice) but luckily the bartender was generous with the rum. Our food arrived and based on sight alone I knew it was going to be good. I ordered the cubano, the traditional cuban pressed sandwich built on layers of ham and pulled pork. I loved this sandwich. Personally, I would have liked a little more pickle, but not a big deal. The ham looked to be of high quality and the pulled pork was clearly made in their own kitchen. This sandwich came with a side of sweet potato fries and a small cup of honey for dipping. Really, really, good stuff and complimented the sandwich perfectly. I do not remember the name of the sandwich my wife ordered. It was also a pressed sandwich with strawberry jam instead of mustard for condiment. We traded bites and I thought her choice was also a worthy adversary. Much like the sweet potato fires, the strawberry jam made for an excellent sweet/savory combo. Just like a montecristo sandwich. Except better. I will be returning here again. Like I said, this is a newer establishment so a few minor bumps are to be expected. My only other complaint, and I don't see this changing, is $7-$8 dollars for a mojito. Five years ago I would have never believed downtown New Albany would be an are I'd want to hang. Well... believe it. PS - I didn't have the time (and by time I mean money) but the menu revealed many options for tapas. Que excitement!

Food: I had Pescado a la Plancha, it's basically grilled mahi-mahi served on top of garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and topped with mango salsa. The presentation is the best I have ever seen especially the color. If you love the taste of grilled mahi-mahi with soured top salsa, this is the best choice. Service: super friendly waiter, they deserve five stars. Environment: if weather permits, sit outside and enjoy sunshine. Only one drawback I would like to point out is the portion. It's not very enough for me, not to mention when you are hungry. Hopefully, the owner can read this review and improve it.

Whenever anyone comes to visit me, I always make them come here. No one has been disappointed yet! The 3 for $6.99 lunch special is a great deal with tons of good options, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how vegetarian friendly it is--not a given for tapas. I love the Habana Blues salad and the yuca frita and the empanadas and, like, all of it. Yay! The patio is really pretty, too.

There are no Blues in this Havana. There are not enough words in the dictionary of 'words to describe great food,' to describe the abundance of delights your taste buds will experience when dining at this delicious restaurant. Living in San Francisco, I am used to amazing seafood and other treats of Spanish origin. And, this restaurant in the Southern tip of Indiana is easily one of the best I have ever eaten at. Six of us (myself and 5 cousins from New Albany) shared small plates of tapas that filled our tummies and left us too full for desert. First thing to do when you sit down, is order the Paella because it takes the longest to cook. They have three options for you to enjoy. One is actually just a saffron rice and chicken treat. We opted for the traditional paella with chorizo, muscles, scallops, shrimp, crawfish(?) and more. This beautiful delight, which didn't scrimp on any of the fillings, was then delivered surrounded by 4 plantain cakes, overflowing in a clay dish. This dish came last after we ate at least 7 or more additional dishes. They also have a vegetarian paella for those not into meat and fish. The dinner started with beef and chicken Empanadas. The pulled chicken were my favorite, because the chicken simmering in the spices all day were more flavorful than the ground beef filling the others. I think chicken just absorbs more flavor. The pastry dough was crispy and buttery and chewy mmmmm good. . We also tried a guacamole served with plaintain chips...what a GREAT idea. The sweet and salty chips were a perfect way to scoop the chunky avocado delight into our mouths. One of our more favorite (more because most of them were a favorite) dishes was the Cuban tamal. This soft, fluffy pillow of corn dough was smothered in a spiced, tomato sauce enhanced with shrimp and craw-fish. One of our favorites around the table was the shrimp cooked in garlic, olive oil, butter and garlic and garlic and more butter; in another clay dish. There were five shrimp, swimming in the sauce served with toasted fresh bread to soak up the butter and did i say garlic? The Spanish meatballs with a Cajun wine and tomato sauce was the dish we all like best. Three chewy, tasty meatballs were bathed in this creamy sauce, also served in a clay dish and accompanied by toasted bread. We enjoyed the lamb chop, perfectly cooked to medium (2 on this plate,) 'chimi' steak cooked medium rare(5 small slices,) and another favorite were the three big, fluffy SCALLOPS which were dusted with a Spanish spice and sauteed to perfection. The calamari was my least favorite. Which is a bummer because I LOVE CALAMARI. I felt that it wasn't as chewy as it should be. I missed the tentacles, as it was only rings and the batter/crust fell off before i could dip it into the red pepper jelly. One of our party of 6, doesn't like fish so, she also had a very nice green salad with queso fresco sprinkled atop it. It was actually large enough for each person to have a nice little plate of salad. We also had a pitcher of Sangria which was more than enough for th 5 of us drinking it. Mojitos are a bit expensive...something like $8.00. So I skipped that. What about rum, sugar, mint and tonic water is worth $8.00. Nothing I know of. But, the Sangria is delicious. We were way too stuffed for desert but, I want to go back next week and try their tres leches cake. This latin american treat is usually a white cake but, these smart folk in New Albany use a CHOCOLATE cake to soak up the three gifts from our friend the cow ...evaporated milk, milk and cream. The best I have had is from a bakery in the Mission in SF. (name to follow in another review...gotta look it up) New Albany is a foodies friend. Come on down y'all. This Southern town, with friendly folks and people who know how to cook great food won't disappoint you. Nice space, wonderful service.

There during Derby week - loved it - way loved it. My family had a great time trying many varied things - small plates rule. Nice group of wines by the glass. Try this place - family owned and different from the norm.

My husband and I recently went here for lunch, and had a great meal. We split three tapas plates: the Pincho de Pollo, Empanadas, and the Albondigas. All were wonderful. The empanadas were flaky, the chili sauce for the chicken was wonderful, and the meatballs were out of this world. Currently trying to think of a way to get back since I don't live in the area.

Yet another unique option downtown, New Albany!! Sandwiches were excellent. Above average beer selection with several New Albanians available.

I've eaten both lunch and dinner at Habana Blues, and the hardest part about it is breaking away from something I love to try something new - but there's no worries. Everything is terrific. For lunch, I usually get the Cubano sandwich with a cup of black bean soup, although I'm not a fan of the raw onions that come on top of the soup. For dinner, take friends and choose from a variety of tapas plates. It is just a flat-out terrific place to go and it's wonderful to have somewhere new to eat in New Albany.

Being a fan of the closest Cuban restaurant in nearby Lou. KY. I was a bit hesitant to try the relatively new Habana Blues in New Albany, IN. Several people had recommended it, but past Cuban start ups in Southern IN. had been a disappointment. Not this one. Wow! It is a tapas style small plate approach that succeeds in every way. Great Sangria and Mojitos. Give it a try, you won't be sorry. Also, my wife who grew up in South Fla. and knows good Cuban food, can't wait to go back.

I work right around the corner from this restaurant. The food is very good however both times my co workers and I have gone for lunch it was very slow. Service was also not very good. We have decided that they are probably going to loose a lot of the business lunch crowd.

This is a nice place to go for tapas --- the food is uniformly good, they make great mojitos, the wait staff is attentive. Prices are a little high for a weekly attend.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch at Habana Blues. They have a lunch special for $8, 1/2 sandwich plus 2 sides of your choice. I had the Cubano sandwich, roasted pork, ham and swiss cheese, sides french fries, caldo gallego, a stew of navy beans, ham, pork, flank steak, peppers and garlic. My wife had the pan con embutidos sandwich, chorizo, serrano ham, bacon, manchego cheese, sides sweet potato fries, Habana Blues salad. The cubano sandwich was delicious, but I had a bite of the pan con embutidos sandwich, which is so good this is a near religious experience. My caldo gallego stew was very good, thick, smoky and hardy. Both the French and sweet potato fries were hot, flavorful, and not greasy. The Habana Blues salad was good, except the cucumbers were either old or not kept at the proper temperature, as they were off color and the flavor was not right. The menus are very good, many items to choose and fairly priced. Our service person helped us promptly, was courteous, and checked back with us. The restaurant and mens room were clean. We will be back for lunch, dinner or both in the not too distant future.

I think that they have some really good food. Their pork tacos are out of control. I also love their humus trio and beef wellington. I also wanted to let everyone know that they are not closed forever. I just called and spoke with the owner and they are re-opening at a new locations in about 3 weeks. Which will be the 3rd week of April.

My wife found ourselves in downtown New Albany looking for a spot to watch the World Cup finals. Someone recommended Habana Blues and it was a great experience. Not only were we able to watch the finals in Spanish with a lot of the staff and a few die hard locals, but we had some of the best Empanadas I have had since living in South America.

Sister-restaurant to Louisville's popular Mojitos, Habana Blues offers a quieter, less trendy version of the same delectable eats offered up in town. Located on a corner of historic downtown New Albany, the tapas here stand up to those being created in much larger and more celebrated culinary meccas, such as Chicago, Miami and New York. The plantain chips and guacamole are not only delicious but also beautifully presented, and an excellent palate cleanser between courses. As a vegetarian, I found myself swimming in options, and delighted by each. It's a sign of good things that such creative, high quality food is being served in Southern Indiana. If you're weary of the same pseudo-Mexican and Italian-American grub found throughout the region, try this place instead.

Had a great time with friends over great mojitos and delicious food! The service was top-notch. I had fried plantains and mahi-mahi over asparagus and mashed potatoes with some sort of mango salsa. Every bite was awesome. After dinner we left the dining area and moved up to their lounge where they had super comfortable couches and we relaxed and had a blast. We will going back.

We went there for their margarita night and arrived a little after 8. By the time we looked at the menu and decided to order a drink the waitress arrived with a bad attitude and told us the kitchen closed in ten minutes, at 8:40 so we had order right then. We didn't even order any food because we felt so unwelcome. A little before nine, the waitresses came and sat by our table and then removed the umbrellas from our table while acting like we were not there. I have never felt so uncomfortable and welcome at a night labeled "margarita night".

I had Habana Blues for the first time last night. There is street parking available in front of the restaurant and I was easily able to find a spot. Upon entering the building and arriving at the host's stand, it was a wait of several minutes before any of the staff noticed that there were people waiting. I think this may be because there are two rooms where people are being served in but the entryway is between them and not visible to those in either room. However, once seated, the staff was very polite and helpful. My companion and I chose to go for tapas rather than entrees as a way to try out a lot of dishes that we had not had before. Consensus was that the Albondigas (meatballs in a truly tasty sauce and very good bread for dipping) was our favorite selection. As many other Yelpers have noted, the smoked honey dipping sauce that comes with the Boniato Frito was interesting and worth trying. Other tapas choices we tried were good as well - everything is worth tasting! Being that it was a quiet Sunday night in the restaurant, I was particularly surprised that it took quite a while for our server to attend to our table once we were done eating. She had come by a couple times to clear plates yet I had to actually request the check once I could get her attention again much later. This wasn't terrible because I was enjoying my company, but I did find it to be a little strange. Lastly, and very importantly, please order yourself a mojito. Best I've ever had!

Al fresco dining at it's finest. It seems like Indiana knows whats up in this department. Apparently, HB is also potentially going to extend the outdoor space so they can accomodate musicians playing on the patio! I've only eaten here once so far so I can't comment about the menu at large, but I will tell you -- it's large. And most importantly, this restaurant combines the American love of options and the Cuban love of tapas. To make the options even wider, the menu is designed so that you can order an entree version or a tapas version of most any dish on their menu. It's all clearly noted, but there are a few that only come as one or the other. Grab a pitcher of Sangria for the table, pass the tapas around and you're set for a great time.

I stopped here on the way back to Cincinnati after reading the reviews on Yelp. This place is top notch in terms of food, service, and atmosphere. Consider sitting in the courtyard on a nice day. For a great meal, go with the pan con embutidos with sweet potato fries on the side; it will knock your socks off!

Sexy Beast and I had a late lunch here recently. The place was pretty empty and we had an entire room all to ourselves. I rather liked the atmosphere of the place but, then, I am a fan of old buildings. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival by a friendly young lady. Our waiter showed up within a couple of minutes and was informative regarding the menu and attentive during the meal. I found the chicken empanadas to be delicious. The Caldo Gallego was tasty and robust. My salad, however, just laid there on the plate. It was abundant but a little wilted and unimpressive. Sexy Beast enjoyed his Ropa Vieja de Pollo and ate every bite. Overall, we liked Habana Blues and will likely give it another try.

Just revisted this place after a quite pleasant stop by last fall for the mussels/tomatoe soup which was delicious. I must say I wasn't disappointed. The value (8.00) for the lunch specials cant be beat with generous portions. I had the chicken breast sandwich which was very flavorful and juicy. The red ben soup was rich and also very flavorful with generous bits of pork throughout. The waitress was attentive and accomodating. Overall, a very pleasant place to spend some time enjoying the food and atmosphere.

The dining experience is pathetic at best. I have been here over a handful of times because the food is good, but when it takes 10-15 minutes for someone to actually wait on you there's a problem. I have gotten up and left before, but keep giving them chances because of the actual food itself. No refills on water, stuffy restaurant and no air ventilation, brought the other persons food out 15 minutes before mine, and the list goes on. They are moving to a bigger location which I doubt will matter considering they can't even manage a smaller venue. Food favorites include the beef skewers and meatball entrees. Guacamole and plantains are great, and the drinks are just so so. I will drive 20 minutes to Havana Rumba or Mojitos before I spend another dollar in this restaurant again. Worst consecutive service I have ever seen and they aren't apologetic about it whatsoever!

In town on business and followed Yelp to this wonderful gem for lunch. I had the eight-dollar lunch special which included 1/2 a Cuban sandwich, 1/2 Habana Blues Salad, and sweet potato fries. All were just about perfect. Service was good - very attentive and friendly. I was even offered a to-go cup of iced tea for the road. The nicest part was sitting in the outdoor courtyard and enjoying the water fountain and music. Great ambiance. Certainly not what I was expecting in New Albany - but a pleasant surprise.

This is an authentic Cuban place and you can't beat it! The service is great too. Love the outdoor seating, location, and intimate bar area. The prices are great too. Watch out for the pitchers of margaritas! They are delicious and you won't be able to drive home afterwards.

Can not give this place any stars as we didn't stay to eat. We made reservations for Valentines Day, the person who took the reservation never mentioned they had a set menu, and no alcohol. We drove there on one of the most freezing nights of the year just to turn around and go back home. On a bright note The Vietnamese Kitchen was outstanding as usual!

I normally dislike tapas, but I really like Habana Blues! See, I typically leave a tapas place feeling like I paid a ton of money for some appetizers and didn't get filled up. Habana Blues definitely filled me up and the prices were fairly reasonable. The location is fantastic, perched on the corner of Market, just across the street from where the city holds its Farmers' Market on weekends. The rooms are intimate, though still lively and, some may consider loud. Our server was very helpful and offered his recommendations for both food and drink. He was attentive without being overbearing. The food was a mixed bag. It started off at wonderful and worked down to passable. Our cheese plate appetizer was flavorful, but grounded. The beef tenderloin was AMAZING! Seriously. By this point, I was completely on board for a 5-star review. Then the fish came and it was dry and bland. I had high hopes for the fish since this is a Cuban restaurant and Cuba is an island. "They know fish," I thought. Oh well. Desert was the chocolate cake and it too left me wanting. I want to go back and try some other dishes and try to match the majesty of that beef. Man, that was good.

Oh my gosh, this little hidden gem was a total win with me and the gf. Our favorite meal was the albondigas and sofritos scallops. For someone who has historically avoided scallops, I was quite surprised how tasty they were when my gf ordered them. The house sangria and house marg were added pleasantries. Well...let me add the Pescado a la Plancha. That was absolutely amazing! So much so that I wished I has the entire entree. Will most definitely be back!

We ventured across the river to broaden our horizons and not get stuck in the NuLu rut. I'd heard great things about this spot, and I must say that the fare definitely didn't disappoint. The ambiance is lacking, though the venue could be really cool. I believe it must have been a hotel at some point. While they could've used that to their advantage, they've really mucked up the charm. However, we went on a Saturday night and they had a roaming acoustic guitarist and singer serenading the diners. He was a nice touch - not too overbearing. I started with the Mojito Martini at the suggestion of the waitress, but I left yearning for an actual mojito. Next time, that's what I'll order. For our tapas, we chose Champinones al Ajillo, Gambas al Ajillo, Guacamole con Chicharri and Veggie Empanadas. All were delicious and I would recommend and order each of them again. The portions were large for tapas and the two of us couldn't finish the four items we'd ordered. But the highlight of the trip was my Cafe Cubano. I would drive back to New Albany just for that perfect little shot of espresso with just the right amount of sweetness. No dessert needed.

Fantastic time at this little restaurant! Sit back, relax, an enjoy one of many authentic Cuban dishes. Next time I find myself in this New Albany, I will surely be stopping by.

  • Alden K.

This is an authentic Cuban place and you can't beat it! The service is great too. Love the outdoor seating, location, and intimate bar area. The prices are great too. Watch out for the pitchers of margaritas! They are delicious and you won't be able to drive home afterwards.
